How To Get Started As A Virtual Assistant

Embarking on a career as a virtual assistant  is becoming a popular way to become a work at home mum for many women.  If you’ve previously had a career and experience in an administrative field and can offer virtual administrative services and support to business customers, then you would be a good candidate for starting a successful virtual assistant business.

Getting started as a virtual assistant takes some simple steps along with the necessity to prepare a business plan for your business . There isn’t a formal process to gain certifications to become a virtual assistant, but there are various virtual assistant companies who provide you with training and their own certifications. Getting a certification through an agency or a virtual assistant company is not a requirement to be a successful virtual assistant, but it could help you in getting tasks as a starter.  Make sure that if you do decide to sign up for a course, you do your research on the certification provider.  You can get information and feedback from other virtual assistants and even look at finding a mentor to help you in your new venture. Reduce Your Carbon Footprint & Save Money

Having two young children I am starting to fear what their life will be like in 20 – 30 years, especially if we don’t try to do something about the current state the environment is in. Thankfully there is an environmental entrepreneur here in Australia – Jean Cannon, who is trying to do something about the environment along with teaching others how you can “Reduce Your Carbon Footprint” both at work and home. At the same time Jean can train and guide you on how you can save money by following her small simple steps.

After reading “Reduce Your Carbon Footprint” by Jean Cannon, I started putting into place some of her suggestions around the home (which also includes my office area). My hot water system was on the way out so I upgraded to a new one. My fridge (which was very ancient) was replaced with a more energy efficient one. I have blinds around the home so during the day they get opened to let the natural light in and NO lights need to be turned on. Power points get turned off when they are not being used, for example the kettle, power points in kids rooms, washing machine etc. These are small things that don’t take a great deal of time or effort to do.

After putting these simple procedures into place I nearly fainted when I got my next electricity bill. It was $200 less than what it had previously been over the past couple of years. Read the rest of this entry »

Finding A Suitable Web Host

It can be very hard to know what to look for when choosing a web host, especially if it’s your first time using one. For a first timer it can be extremely difficult to know which web hosting provider can really supply you with an appropriate web hosting package at a suitable price .

One of the first steps you need to undertake is to decide on a domain name for your website. For example mine is www.kelliesimon.com.au. You also need to check if the name you have chosen is available to be used. Once this has been done and set up with a good hosting provider, you will then need to set up a web hosting plan. Your will be charged a monthly fee for hosting your website with your provider. Web hosting plans can range anywhere from $2 per month up to $50 per month. You can usually get discounts off your plan if you pay for your service as a yearly fee. Read the rest of this entry »

Why Are More Parents Working From Home?

Working from home is becoming more and more popular, especially with parents starting up an online business. There are plenty of reasons as to why a parent chooses to work from home. For me it was the challenge of starting my own business along with being able to raise my children and watch them. Another factor was to earn an extra income at the same time.

When I was working full time, I missed out on a lot of my sons developments and I must admit sometimes I do regret it. Being a work at home parent can give you the flexibility to plan your time between your business and family. What parent would give up the chance to work their own hours, from home and at the same time being able to spend time with their children and family . Read the rest of this entry »
