Today, we are going to look at something that is becoming popular but still relatively new in the Internet Marketing arena: Social Bookmarking.  Social Bookmarking is essentially a method of generating traffic using a social bookmarking service to bookmark your webpages or blog posts.  This way the other users of the bookmarking site can visit your “bookmarks”.  When you bookmark a site,  you tag it with keyword.  When other people searching for similar keywords that reflect their interests, your site has the opportunity to show up in their results.  This can then in turn become a visitor to your site.

Does it work? Absolutely! In fact, this is a really fast and effective way to generate good traffic to your site and it’s for free.  You will want to try to get these visitors signed up on your opt-in list, once they arrive at your site.  This way you can bring them back again and again.  This becomes good traffic because the visitor finds your site by searching for the keywords that you’ve used when you bookmarked it. They are in a way looking for you.  For this reason,  it is very important to use keyword tags, for each page, that are absolutely relevant to the content that is on that page. Never use unrelated keywords as this does not work.

There are a large number of social bookmarking sites out there.  Trying to use them all to bookmark each page and/or blog post could take you weeks.  Thankfully there are websites providing social bookmarking services that send your bookmarks along with their tags to various social bookmarking sites, all in one hit.

One of the services I use that targets the some of the best social bookmarking sites is Only Wire. Bye the way it is free to use.  Now getting yourself set up with Only Wire can take a couple of hours, because you will need to go to each of the social bookmarking sites that it lists and register with that site.  You will then need to put your username and password for each of the sites you registered with, into the list at Only Wire.

Once that is completed, you then need to add the Only Wire icon to your browser toolbar (this is very easy to do – you just click, hold the mouse button down, and drag and drop it up there).  You are now all set up and ready to start bookmarking. When you are ready to bookmark your pages,  first go to the Only Wire site and login. Leave that window open. Open another window (tabbed browsers work great for this),  go to your site,  go to a page that you want to bookmark, and then hit/click on the Only Wire icon.

You will then be taken to the Only Wire add a bookmark page.  You will find that everything is filled in here, except for your keyword tags.  List the keywords that are associated with the page you are bookmarking, and hit submit.  You’re now done with that page.  You can now move on to the next page to bookmark.  Nothing could be easier and it is very effective for generating traffic to your site.

Join Only Wire at http://www.onlywire.com . Register for each site on the list, and get Only Wire all set up as instructed above. Add the bookmark icon to your browser toolbar, and then go to each page of your website, click the icon, and add it to the social bookmarks making sure you tag each page with keywords.
