Getting Your Online Business Started – Part 2

Did you know that when starting an online business there is a lot more too it than just setting up a website with a product to sell? To ensure that your business becomes profitable, you need to first get people to visit your website and then keep them interested in coming back to purchase your product or your services.

Now in order for people to find your website in the first place, your site needs to rank high in the search engines. It should at least be in the top 20 search results for your websites keywords. Now if you are wondering why this is so, have a think about the amount of times you have searched for something on the Internet. When you are searching for something, how often do you usually continue past the first two pages of results? If you are like most people who are searching for information, if you don’t find exactly what you are looking for within the first two pages of search results, you try another search term. Don’t you?

The content (words) that make up your website have a direct impact on just how successful your online business will be. You must be aware of keyword search optimization so that the major search engines, like Google for example, will pick up your website. You can submit your website to the search engines for free, but you must remember that the words you use to make up the content of your website will determine your ranking.

When you have an online business, it is possible to make money while you sleep. Your website is always open 24 hours a day. The big advantage of having an online business and a website is the fact that you can reach your customers and visitors who come from any destination in the world. You do not physically have to be at your business every minute of the day.

As you will be doing business with people worldwide, you will need to have a secure way for your customers to purchase your products and services. You will need to do your research about which options are available for you. As you are doing business online you will need to provide a payment service which allows your customers to use thier credit cards and feel safe about doing so. Having your customers pay by credit card is one of the safest ways of ensuring that you receive payment for your services/products. If you have a product that you physically ship to your customers, then always ensure that you receive payment first before sending the product to them. This ensures that you are not running the risk of not getting paid.

There are businesses online that will process the credit card payments for you. You do incur a low monthly fee, which means that you don’t have to set up a merchant account of your own for your business. PayPal and CCNow are two perfect examples of these type of sites.

If you are selling physical products then you need to take into consideration how you will deliver the products to the purchaser. Shipping charges can be expensive, so you may want to look at marking the sales price of your items up a bit more. This way you can then entice your customers to buy more by giving away free shipping. You could also look at having the shipping costs added to the total cost that the consumer has to pay. If you do this though, it MUST be printed on your website, where the customers can see. It is important that they know this before making a purchase.
