Yes Your Home Business Can Become A Time Trap

The reasons behind many individuals desire for wanting to work from home are varied. Most home based business owners refer to the power to determine and work their own hours as a major element in their determination to work from home. Yes, so many people that start up a work at home business often fail to to achieve their dreams of flexibility due to the lack of managing their time effectively.

The substantial increase in individuals starting a home based business continues at a strong. According to the Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy, at least fifty-two percent of ALL small businesses are home-based.

Many home based business owners have been known to become “workaholics” due to the fact that your office is now very accessible. You can’t let yourself become glued to your work and need to ensure that you take time out. You must get out of your home office on regular occasions to let yourself recharge and revitalize.

Withdraw yourself from your designated “work space” and move into your “home” area to live your personal life. Turn your computer off when it is personal time or keep yourself away from it. Don’t let yourself be tempted to just quickly check that email. It can wait. When it is personal time, it’s personal time. If you have a seperate telephone for your business then turn the volume of the ringer down and turn on your answering machine, again with the volume turned down. All of these can be checked when it is your “work” time.

Just because you are working from your home, it is not mandatory as a work at home business owner, to work and be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Remember, your office space is just an area set aside for your business in your home…it definately is not your home itself!

As you can see, working and living under the very same roof has so many advantages, but it can also present you with some serious challenges and stressful times.

Here are a few tips on how you can produce a less stressful home business environment:

Have a family discussion to get their feedback and input about your working schedule and the quantity of time they want to spend with you.

Don’t forget the reason you desired to start your home-based business (i.e. flexibility, more time with family, etc.)

Use good time management methods. Keep a list of your tasks in order of importance so you know what requires attention first.

Remember ALWAYS take a little time out to yourself to “smell the roses”
