Finding A Suitable Web Host

It can be very hard to know what to look for when choosing a web host, especially if it’s your first time using one. For a first timer it can be extremely difficult to know which web hosting provider can really supply you with an appropriate web hosting package at a suitable price .

One of the first steps you need to undertake is to decide on a domain name for your website. For example mine is www.kelliesimon.com.au. You also need to check if the name you have chosen is available to be used. Once this has been done and set up with a good hosting provider, you will then need to set up a web hosting plan. Your will be charged a monthly fee for hosting your website with your provider. Web hosting plans can range anywhere from $2 per month up to $50 per month. You can usually get discounts off your plan if you pay for your service as a yearly fee.

Try to avoid using free or extremely cheap web hosting services. The downside to opting for the more inexpensive option is you will potentially encounter more server downtime compared to the higher priced plans. With many of the cheaper and free plans you commonly don’t receive the benefits of having access to further email addresses, extra storage size and there will be FTP limitations to name a few. Be sure that your web host can provide you with all the extra services that you require for your website. These are things such as blogs, forums, storefronts, e-commerce solutions and anything else you require for your site’s solutions.

One very important thing to look for in a web hosting company is their customer service. Make sure that your web host can be contacted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is there for you when something goes wrong, or if you need help. Also keep in mind that if you do opt for a cheaper or free web hosting plan you’ll probably only get email support not telephone support.

My tip is to make sure you know what type of service you are looking for. Do your research. See how long the company has been around for. Do a Google search and look on different forums. Ask other people in your network, family and friends.  If you don’t have the time to research and set up your web hosting, you can always hire someone to do it for you.
